Think you don’t have enough time for your dog?

Experts in the animal field agree that dogs require a mere 15 minutes of one-on-one time with their human companions per day, to be happy, healthy, and well-adjusted! That could be simply spent laying in bed at night watching t.v. together, playing ball in the backyard for 15 minutes while dinner is cooking, or going for a walk or jog! Surely you can spare 15 minutes per day. Pets reduce personal stress and can add years to your life – make the time for you AND your dog.

Are there behavioral issues?

Is your dog having trouble getting along with other animals in the household or are there other behavioral issues that have led to the decision to give up your dog? If so, let us help you. Send us an email, we can most likely recommend a trainer in your area. If you didn’t socialize your dog as a puppy, it’s never too late to enroll her or him in obedience school. It’s fun and can count as your 15 minutes of bonding time!

Are you moving and having a hard time finding a pet friendly rental?

Contact us and our Pack Your Pets volunteer team will do our best to help you find a rental in the Santa Fe, Los Alamos or Rio Arriba County areas where you can bring your pet with you! Finding a pet-friendly rental can be a challenge, but it can be done and we want to help you take your pets with you, so please contact us as far in advance of your move as possible so we can dedicate time to your housing search. For some additional tips for renters who have dogs (especially pit bulls, or other large breeds), check out these tips from BadRap.

Are you looking to find a new home for your pet, but do not want to bring him or her to the shelter?

We can courtesy list your pet on our website, Petfinder and Facebook pages to help you place your pet directly. To have us courtesy list your pet, the cat or dog must live with you in Rio Arriba County, be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations (all available through our Clinic at low or no-cost). We will need a photo of your pet, but if you do not have one, we can take a photo for you at the shelter. To get your pet courtesy listed with Española Valley Humane Society, just email us.
