WEDNESDAY AUGUST 16 • 7:30 PM • KIVA AUDITORIUM , ALBUQUERQUE

Herbie Hancock is an award-winning jazz composer and musician who is arguably the most influential practitioner of modern jazz piano since Thelonious Monk. Starting his career with Donald Byrd, he shortly thereafter joined the Miles Davis Quintet where Hancock helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound.

Hancock’s best-known compositions include “Cantaloupe Island”, “Maiden Voyage”, and “Rockit”. With an illustrious career spanning five decades, Hancock has won 14 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for River: The Joni Letters, only the second jazz album ever to win the award.
